Bhutan is an ancient Kingdom nestled in the Eastern region of the Himalayan Mountains. It is a small landlocked country, roughly the size of Switzerland (a total area of about 47,000 square kilometers). Its neighboring countries include India, China, Nepal and Bangladesh.

Bhutan’s landscape ranges from sub-topical fertile valleys in the south to the alpine shrub and meadows Himalayan heights in the north to glaciated mountain peaks with some peaks exceeding 7,300 metres. In the most southern part of Bhutan, the landscape drop away from the Himalayas into semi-topical forest, savannah grassland and bamboo jungles.
